This ceramic dish was discovered in the kitchens of the Palace of Mari in Mesopotamia. Mari was an important ancient city.
Dating from the 2nd millennium BC, it was used as a bread and cake mould. Its purity of line and technical sophistication make it both an elementary utensil and a distinctive decorative object.
